These action teams are the backbone of our organization. By having you, our grassroots leaders, as a part of our action teams we can develop the programs and campaigns that best support the work of young people across the south working for a clean energy future. The form below describes the roles of the action teams and which one might fit best with your skills. Action team members can expect to participate in bi-weekly or monthly calls, and will also be invited to take part in our summer leadership retreat.

The Tennessee Youth Environmental Network, founded nine months ago by Laura Rigell and Alex Durand of Maryville, TN, two students who decided to delay their entry to college to make a difference in the lives of Tennessee high school youth, is hosting the first ever Youth Empowerment Summit this June.

I came to the United States from Nicaragua when I was 12 years old. One of my first memories was seeing snow for the first time, but also attending a rally against racism that my mom helped organized. Fast-forward to the year 2011, I was a junior in college interning for Southern Energy Network and found myself in yet another rally—Coal Ash is Scary. Since then, I have helped organize our state network, collect petitions, write letters to editor, write letters to elected officials, call elected officials, organized a rally, and even lobbied in DC during Power Shift 2011.
