July 11: Call to Action from Rising Tide North America!
http://www.risingtidenorthamerica.org/
On July 11th, we are going to target Bank of America, a major funder of mountaintop removal projects. And we're going to dress up! Asheville Rising Tide is going to create a Billionaire Bloc (Billionaires for Coal) at our local Bank of America branch . We're going to dress in our fanciest clothes in an effort to bring attention to the morally bankrupt executives who profit from the destruction of our precious bioregion. We're going to sip dirty martinis "on the rocks" (the rocks, of course, being coal) and pass out information about the Bank of America and their history of funding the expansion of the fossil fuel industry, dirty energy, and mountaintop removal mining.
Where do you fit in? Well, we would love to see you do the same! With co-ordinated media efforts, our individual local actions will be a smashing collective success in getting the word out about mountaintop removal and the corrupt corporations who fund it. We would be more than happy to help by providing folks with fact sheets to print out and use, fliers to call people out to the event, and any other support we can lend. Asheville can serve as the hub for our media outreach as well. So, let us know if you want to take part in this action and if we can help. Email Kat at kturner@warren-wilson.edu with questions, suggestions, or if you'd like to be an organizer of a Billionaire Bloc in your area.
Looking forward to working with y'all,
Asheville Rising Tide
August 5-11: Southeast Convergence for Climate Action
This summer, join people from throughout the southeast and beyond for the second annual Southeast Convergence for Climate Action. This year's convergence will be hosted in Virginia where communities are fighting uranium mining, nuclear power, mountain top removal coal mining, and new (as well as old) coal plants. The convergence is a place to strengthen our movement, network with new allies, and take action against dirty energy while working to build a sustainable world.
