Hello 2012: Ringing in the New Year at SEN

2011 was a great year for the Southern Energy Network, and we’re grateful for everything we accomplished together. From training more than 1,100 Southern youth at Power Shift 2011 to each and every campus victory we won this year, it wouldn’t have happened without your hard work. We’ll be bigger and stronger in 2012 and need your support to make it happen – donate $12 today to help us carry this momentum into the New Year.

Here are some of our top highlights from 2011:

  • We held our first-ever No Coal summer program in Atlanta, Georgia and mobilized more than 500 community members against the dirty proposed coal-fired power plant, Plant Washington
  • At SSREC 2011, more than 450 Southern youth came together one year before the 2012 elections and led an incredible action against the Keystone XL pipeline in Downtown Asheville
  • Students in Tennessee, Mississippi, and Florida won major victories in their fights for campus green energy funds, garnering massive student support in campus-wide referendum

Highlights from Mississippi!

My highlight of 2011 was definitely seeing over 400 students at SSREC! An added bonus to that highlight is that I knew that over 30 of those students were from Mississippi! It was incredible.

However, I think that the biggest highlight of 2011 was seeing two successful campus-wide votes about Green Funds from Ole Miss and Mississippi State University. Mississippi youth want to see a clean and sustainable future for our state and they are making it happen NOW!

I am so excited about all the awesome opportunities SEN has for 2012 and the youth climate movement!

We accomplished so much!

We accomplished so much in 2011, its hard to believe! But then, with such an amazing network of young people working together, its not that hard to believe at all!

My highlight was definitely starting officially as the SEN Florida Organizer and getting to work with the amazing young people in the FL YES Coalition! Having the opportunity to work with and get to know these incredible people has been my inspiration and my motivation to continue this work. Watch out, dirty energy! Florida's in the house!

so many highlights...

... but here's a couple:

Ditto to Kelsea's! Having Jacquie as the our new Florida Organizer, and watching the powerhouse FL YES fight dirty politics, Keystone XL, and New Nukes all in a month! And, of course, working with Elizabeth, the planning committee, and the ASHE team to put on an incredible SSREC!

Personally, my favorite

Personally, my favorite highlight has been watching Georiga Youth for Energy Solutions, SEN's GA state network, flourish in 2011! Our fellows, Cristina, Maura, Sara, Jessie, and Drew, did an amazing job reinvigorating the network. I can't wait to see what they accomplish in 2012.
